Museum of the Moving Image

The Museum of the Moving Image is located in the Astoria neighborhood of the New York City Borough of Queens. It was founded in a building formerly belonging to the historic Astoria Studios. It is a media museum, inaugurated in 1988. In 2008 the museum underwent through a $67 million expansion project which finished in 2011.

The Museum of the Moving Image or MOMI was a museum dedicated to recollecting the history of early cinema, located in Waterloo Bridge in London. It first opened its doors in 1988 with Prince Charles cutting the red ribbon.

Museum of the Moving Image Hours

The Museum of the Image is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 A.M. to 5 P.M. Fridays from 10:30 A.M. to 8 P.M. and free admission is available from 4 P.M. until closing. Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 A.M. to 6 P.M. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, except for certain occasions.

The Museum of the Moving Images offers admission discounts. Free admission to the galleries is available on Fridays from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. New York City teachers with a valid ID enter for free, active duty military personnel and veterans also have free admission, families registered on Cool Culture, and members of WFUV received a discount on admission.

The Museum of the Moving Image hosts the Country’s largest collection of artifacts and memorabilia relating to art, history, and technology of the cinema industry from its early days. It is considered one of a kind collection worldwide.

The Museum of the Moving Image has the largest exhibition about the cinema industry, since its inception until our days. This has allowed several academics to study what is called the “psychology of the movies.”
