The Bensonhurst neighborhood is part of Brooklyn, New York City of the United States, located specifically in the southwestern section of the borough. This large multi-ethnic neighborhood borders McDonald Avenue and 60th Street to the northeast, P Avenue and 25th Avenue to the southeast, 14th Avenue to the northwest, and 86th Street to the southwest. It is also bordered by some adjacent neighborhoods including Gravesend on the southeast side, Dyker Heights on the northwest side, Bath Beach on the southwest side, ending with Mapleton and Borough Park on the northeast side.
Bensonhurst is located within Brooklyn Community District 11 while New York City Council Districts 47, 44, and 43 are responsible for representing the neighborhood in political or diplomatic matters. The 62nd Precinct of the New York City Police Department is responsible for covering and guarding the perimeter of the community. It assigned numbers 11214 and 11204 for the zip code service. It has a total population of 151,705 according to the 2010 census, and the name of the neighborhood derives from a New York real estate developer named Egbert Benson.
Bensonhurst is commonly known as the Little Italy of the Brooklyn district because the area has been home to a large Italian-American population. Also taking into account and making a comparison with all the communities of New York City in the neighborhood of Bensonhurst is the largest population of residents born in China, becoming, in turn, the second Chinese neighborhood of Brooklyn today. According to data recorded from 2007 to 2011, it estimated that of the 330,000 inhabitants of the city born in China, the neighborhood represents 9.5% of the Chinese community in the area.
