Garment District Manhattan, NY Private Investigator and Process Server
The Garment District is also known by the nicknames of the Fashion Center or Fashion District located within the Manhattan district of New York City. The name of the neighborhood originates because it is an area that is related to the dense concentration of fashion uses. The neighborhood is mainly considered to be established between 34th and 42nd Streets on Fifth Avenue and Ninth Avenue encompassing a space of less than 1 square mile.
This neighborhood has served as home to many major clothing brands and numerous showrooms in New York City. All aspects of the fashion process are addressed in the Garment District, from production and design to wholesale and distribution. Since the early 20th century, this district has been known as the premier center of fashion design and fashion manufacturing not only in the United States but also in the world. The boundaries of the Garment District in the late 1930s were generally marked by 42nd Street to the north, 25th Street to the south, Sixth Avenue to the east, and Ninth Avenue to the west. On the south side was the Fur District established between 30th and 25th Streets, which served a very similar function.
Between 28th and 38th streets, the garment industry concentrated in the center of the city, historically centered around Seventh Avenue, which for the portion between 42nd and 26th streets in 1972 designated as Fashion Avenue. As of 2004, between 35th and 41st streets and Fifth and Ninth Avenue, the district began to shrink from the decline of the industry and was concentrated more strongly in the area.
