Even though its legal name is Norwood, as it is reflected in maps, subway stations, publications, and local media, the neighborhood is also known as Bainbridge, mostly due to the large Irish-American community which resides in Bainbridge Avenue. Among the most famous landmarks in the community is the Montefiore Medical Center, who is also the town’s primary source of employment, Williamsbridge Oval, Mosholu Library, the Keeper’s House at Williamsbridge Reservoir, the Valentine-Varian House, Saint Brendan’s Church and School, and the Shrine Church of Saint Ann.
