Richmond Hill is located in Queens to the southwest side of the district. This commercial and residential neighborhood is also known as Little Guyana-Trinidad and Tobago because many Indo-Guyanese, Indo-Trinitans, Tobagonian and Indo-Caribbean emigrated to this area. Originally many European families such as Italian, Dutch, British and German lived in Richmond Hill.
This neighborhood is divided between two Queens Community Boards, Board 9 and Board 10. The area extends from Kew Gardens and Forest Park to the north to South Ozone Park to the south and from Jamaica and South Jamaica to the east to Woodhaven and Ozone Park to the west.
Richmond Hill is within Queens Community District 9 and has 11418 and 11419 as zip numbers. Politically represented by Districts 28, 30 and 32 of the New York City Council and covered by Precinct 102 of the New York City Police Department.
Jamaica Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, and Liberty Avenue are major shopping streets in the neighborhood. Through the Montauk branch, Long Island Rail Road runs diagonally from the northwest to the southeast providing baggage access.
The neighborhood characterized by large single-family homes and most residents own homes, many of which have been maintained since the early 20th century. Also many rental apartments in small buildings in the area. Many of Queen Anne’s old houses in Richmond Hill are still preserved.
In Richmond Hill, there is a remarkable religious diversity so there is a high density of places of worship Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Christian, Sikhs, Hindus, Jews, and Muslims.
