Rockaway Park is a neighborhood located in the city of Queens, New York City.
Its located between Jamaica Bay to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, on the Rockaway Peninsula.
Rockaway Beach is on its eastern side, while the community of Belle Harbor is on its western side.
The section is part of the Queens Community Board 14.
It has a population is around 20,000 people of which 36% are of Irish descent. Because of this, the area has been called the “Irish Riviera”.
Rockaway Park has the second-largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York City. Being only surpassed by the Fifth Avenue parade in Manhattan.
The neighborhood is on the outskirts of Beach 116th Street, a two-block street that begins on Beach Channel Drive and extends south to Ocean Promenade.
One of the ways to access Manhattan for travelers is through the A and S trains at Rockaway Park Station – Beach 116th Street, the terminal of the IND Rockaway Line and all its associated services.
In October 2012, the SeaStreak ferry operator service was subsidized, which began operating between a makeshift ferry pier at Beach 108th Street and Beach Channel Drive and Pier 11/Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, and then continued to East 34th Street Ferry Landing in downtown Manhattan.
