East Flatbush is an area located in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, its postal service serves under zip code 11203 and belongs to Brooklyn Community District number 17. It is surrounded by different boroughs of the borough; north of Flatlands and East Midwood, south of Crown Heights, east of Flatbush and Kensington and west of Canarsie. It is considered a residential neighborhood, with more than 130,000 inhabitants of which the majority are African American and a total density of 18,000/km2. It consists of several main avenues and many streets that run through the different parks and restaurants that offer the area.
The neighborhood has 4 outstanding green areas, of which three parks; Wingate Park, Paerdegat Park, and Harry Maze Playground, among them, offer activities for the entire family at the service of the community, such as; basketball court, baseball, handball, soccer, training equipment, running tracks, Wi-Fi free zones, spray showers, and more. All of these parks are located throughout the neighborhood, and downtown, East Flatbush is Holy Cross Cemetery, a huge New York City cemetery owned by the American Roman Catholic, which is under the command of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
In another of its green areas is The Wyckoff House Museum, a house to preserve the history of the constructions ordered by Wouter van Twiller in 1640. The central area of East Flatbush is called Farragut, which is an area that was part of the old Colonial City of Farragut and originally its majority population were Italians and Jews so that after the decade of the ’90s and as it is today, were the African Americans the great majority.
