Highbridge Bronx, NY Private Investigator and Process Server

Highbridge is an area located in New York City, in the central Bronx. It is considered a residential territory. It is surrounded by different areas of the Bronx; east of Harlem River, north of East 161st Street, west of the Grand Concourse and south of the Cross-Bronx Expressway. The best way to get around the main areas of Highbridge is through Ogden Avenue, which is its main road. At the end of the 15th century, the area that is now Highbridge was inhabited by a Wappinger Confederation tribe called the Siwanoy.

The area was named Nuasin during the time of European colonization, the name is a way of saying “land between” that referred to the river Harlem and a mouth. Irish immigrants built a high bridge to transport water from the Croton Aqueduct across the Harlem River in 1848, from which Highbridge got its name. The area improved around the first half of the 19th century when different suburban shelters were developed for the elite of New York City. These houses overlooked the Harlem River.

Several avenues in Highbridge were named after the families who inhabited those shelters, such as Boscobel Place, Merriam Avenue, Woodycrest Avenue, Anderson Avenue, Boscobel Place, and Ogden Avenue. Many changes have had the area since the nineteenth century, and many of those houses were preserved and can still be seen today even though the great majority were demolished at the end of the twentieth century. The Highbridge postal service serves under zip code 10452 and is located at Community Board 4.
