LeFrak City is an apartment and house development constituted by 4,605. Its delimitations are the following, is placed among Junction Boulevard to the west, to the north by the 57th Avenue, to the east by the 99th Street and by last to the south there is the Long Island Expressway.
This housing development is part of Queens Community Board 4.
Twenty towers of 17-story apartment covering 40 acres of the residential complex, and houses across 14,000 people in those 4,605 apartments. The buildings are all divided and grouped in batches of four depending on their theme since each group has a name after cities or countries all around the world.
The idea of classifying building groups that way arose in 1964 during the New York World’s Fair, which was in nearby Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. Its developer was the LeFrak Organization founded by Samuel J. LeFrak,
that’s why it was named like that.
This city was built to give a home principally to those working and middle-class families who had an interest in modern buildings and structures but did not have the economic possibilities or were not interested in living in Manhattan. LeFrak City was built atop Horse Brook, a small stream in 1962–1971. The complex became home to a notable distinct community. It endures popular with 98% ownership due to its inexpensive rents, and large apartments.
