Originally, the town was called Breslau because the first German settlers who inhabited the area were from a city in Silesia known as Breslau. In 1873 this city was founded and in 1891 it was renamed as we know it today under the name Lindenhurst. More than half of the village’s streets flooded by Hurricane Sandy on October 30, 2012.
