The town’s main thoroughfares are White Plains Road, Metropolitan Avenue, and Union Road. Parkchester has a population of nearly 30.000 with a predominantly African-American and Hispanic demographic. Public transportation is not a problem for the residents of this quaint planned community in the heart of the Bronx. The MTA Regional Bus Operations has nine bus routes taking commuters in and out of the neighborhood. Also, the New York City Subway System has a station at Parkchester, where people can board the 6 train. Finally, the NYC Ferry stops at Parkchester in its route between Clason Point and Soundview.
A scale model of the neighborhood was first displayed at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. Construction began later that same year and ended in 1942. Parkchester, known as the city within a city offers it’s residents a unique NYC suburban experience with tree-lined streets and mesmerizing apartment complexes.
