The community is patrolled by the capable officers over at the 120th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. To determine the population of Saint George, New York officials created a larger area combining the neighborhoods of West New Brighton, St. George, and New Brighton. The total population is approximately 34.000 with a predominantly Hispanic and Latino demographic, although, there is a longstanding and growing African-American community.

As the transportation and cultural hub of Staten Island, St. George has no shortage of cultural buildings such as The Staten Island Institute of Arts & Sciences, the National Lighthouse Museum, the September 11 memorial called “Postcards,” and the world-famous St. George Theater. The neighborhood has been featured in popular culture media, like the 1973 film Sisters by director Brian de Palma.
