Tremont is a working-class residential neighborhood located in the western section of the New York City borough of the Bronx. It is bounded by the Grand Concourse, East 181 Street, Cross-Bronx Expressway, and Third Avenue. The main roadway running through the neighborhood is East Tremont Avenue, which is also the commercial hub. Tremont along with fellow neighborhoods West Farms, Bathgate, East Tremont, and Belmont, they make up the Bronx Community Board 6, the town is patrolled by the police officers on the 48th Precinct of the New York City Police Department.
Tremont has a population of nearly 25.000 with a predominantly Hispanic and Latino demographic. The neighborhood has one of the highest concentrations of Dominican immigrants in all of the Bronx, in addition to its longstanding Puerto Rican and African-American communities. Tremont was named by a postmaster sometime during the 1800s, unlike most neighborhoods in the Bronx who’s name has a colonial origin, the name derived from the English word Three, and the three neighborhoods in West-Central Bronx, Mount Eden, Mount Hope, and Fairmount, hence, Tremont.
Public transportation is somewhat of an issue for the residents of this neighborhood. Commuters will find just a few ways to get into Manhattan. There is the Tremont Station of the Metro-North Railroad, which takes about 25 minutes to reach Grand Central Station. Also, the MTA Regional Bus has several routes serving in Tremont.
