The neighborhood of City Island established on an island, called the same way, which covers an extension of about 1.5 miles long and 0.5 miles wide. This neighborhood located in the Bronx district of New York, specifically east of Eastchester Bay, south of Pelham Bay and at the western end of Long Island Sound. It is not a very populated island, only about 4,362 people live in the neighborhood, according to the census conducted in 2010, covering about 0.395 square miles of territory. Many years ago, the island was considered part of the Westchester County of New York City and incorporated within the Pelham boundaries. But the island is currently part of New York. However, it is part of the group of Pelham Islands, which were originally owned by Thomas Pell. City Island Harbor is known as the small body of water that lies between uninhabited Hart Island and City Island. Also to the northeast is a small adjacent island known as High Island.
On City Island Avenue you will find the largest concentration of stores and businesses along the central avenue. It has a gas station, a bank, a Farmacia, two supermarkets and a variety of stores of different types. The island is characterized by its distinguished antique shops and delicious seafood restaurants located on both sides of City Island Avenue. For the enjoyment of residents and tourists, City Island has a tourist complex, resort and amusement park that opened in 1887, located in the southern part of the island called Belden Point.
