Fort Wadsworth Staten Island, NY Private Investigator and Process Server
Fort Wadsworth is part of the municipality of Staten Island in New York City, is a former U.S. military facility located more precisely in The Narrows, which in turn divides the New York Bay into an upper half and a lower half, creating a natural point for the defense of Manhattan and the upper part of the bay. The Fort Wadsworth area is currently maintained by the National Park Service as it now
became a part of the Staten Island Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area.
At the time this area was considered by many to be the longest continuous garrisoned military installation in the United States until it closed completely in 1994. This facility was divided into several units including Fort Richmond and Fort Tompkins, and even smaller units. In 1865 and to honor James Wadsworth, the Brigadier General who had been assassinated during the Civil War in the Battle of the Deserts, his present name adopted. It currently has two historic structures which were built in the mid-nineteenth century, which are the Fort Tompkins and Battery Weed, both open to the public only on guided tours.
The old fort is surrounded by a residential neighborhood, which is also sometimes denoted by the name of Fort Wadsworth. This neighborhood is bordered on the north by South Beach, on the south by Rosebank, and on the west by Shore Acres. The community of Fort Wadsworth previously had a Staten Island Railroad station on the South Beach branch that ended service in 1953.
