Towns within the Great Neck section include Russell Gardens, Great Neck Estates, Great Neck Plaza and Great Neck, and several other unincorporated areas too.

On the other hand, the residential community of the largest area of Great Neck comprises about 40,000 people distributed among the nine villages and other villages of the city of North Hempstead, whose northwest quadrant is formed by Great Neck. The town is attributed five main zip codes ranging from 11020 to 11024 which are linked by a school district and a park district.

Hamlets are locally unrecognized statistical entities, which in turn designated to various unincorporated territories consolidated by the census. The Third Precinct of the Nassau County Police Department is responsible for patrolling the area.
