Greenport Long Island, NY Private Investigator and Process Server

Greenport is a town belonging to Suffolk County established at the northern fork of Long Island in the New York City of the United States of America. According to data recorded during the 2010 national census, the population of Greenport was about 2,197 at that time. The community of Greenport is the only incorporated town in the city of Southold. Greenport had developed a strong whaling and fishing industry in the past so it became an important port for its area. Today, however, only a handful of commercial fishing vessels are still operating in Greenport. Although the fishing industry has declined over the years, the tourism industry, on the other hand, has grown substantially more recently, especially reaching its peak in the summer season.

It is assigned the number 11944 to serve as a postal service code. In 1682, the village of Greenport was first established and initially called in different forms, such as Green Hill, Winter Harbor, and Stirling, but in 1838 it was officially incorporated. Since 1844 on the Long Island railroad, Greenport has been the eastern terminal station at the northern fork in the road, but before that, it was once a shipbuilding and whaling town.

Taverns and rum circulation became a significant part of Greenport’s economy during Prohibition. Many of the restaurants located on the east end bordered with water, served illegal alcohol. Within the Greenport Village Historic District are most of the village’s oldest structures, which included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
