Little Egypt Queens, NY Private Investigator and Process Server

Little Egypt is a small commercial area belonging to Astoria of the district of Queens. This area is concentrated mainly between 28th Avenue and Steinway Street from Astoria Boulevard.

Although there is a significant amount of Egyptian immigrants in this area, by now its nickname may be a bit inapplicable since many immigrants from the Middle Eastern countries call this zone home.

In its beginnings, the ethnic composition of the population of this neighborhood principally was composed of people of Lebanese origin. The Egyptians began to emigrate to Astoria in the 60s, to escape the government of Gamal Abdel Nasser. After that many Algerians, Yemenites, Tunisians, and Moroccans, among others nationalities followed suit. Besides, it has been seen recently that an influx of Afghans has moved to Steinway Street.

In recent decades, the small commercial section Little Egypt has become the most important of Steinway Street and a recognized one of Queens in general. “Kebab Café” was opened on Steinway in 1987, the first Egyptian establishment. During the following years Steinway Street has been filled with several restaurants, ethnic grocery stores, sweet shops and lately the swanky hookah bars are trending.

This residential and commercial area has been developed and popularized so that the population has needed acquiring certain services, such as doctors and Arabic-speaking lawyers. On the other hand, for immigrants from the Middle East, more specific services have emerged, such as immigration advocacy groups and travel agencies in the Middle East.

Although Little Egypt is a small community, it has several amenities in addition to being an attractive area for any generation, both for locals and outsiders, whether they are Arabs who do not live in Queens or Americans who are looking for delicious Arab food.
