Long Island City located at the western end of Queens, New York. It is a commercial and residential neighborhood whose northern border is with Astoria, its southern border is Newtown Creek, its eastern border is 49th Street, Hazen Street, and Sunnyside specifically New Calvary Cemetery, and its western border is the East River. In 1898 Long Island City became part of New York City, but before that, was originally incorporated as an individuality city in 1870 and was the seat of the Newtown city government.

The southern part of Long Island City belongs to Queens Community District 2 and the northern part of Queens Community District 1. Is under patrol and security of the New York City Police Department’s 108th Precinct and the New York City Council’s 26th District represents Long Island City. Its zip codes are 11101–11106, 11109, and 11120. Its population density is about 20,030 inhabitants.

At the beginning of the 21st century it gained a rapid and continuous growth concerning the residential factor and gentrification, as well as the development of its coastal parks and its recognizable artistic community, thanks to that Long Island City became known. The neighborhood has a considerable concentration of art galleries, art institutions, and study space.

Long Island City is one of the most vigorous areas of Queens and the entire city of New York. It is a very attractive neighborhood owing to the quality of life similar to Manhattan’s. It also has a fairly unusual history, different from the rest of the neighborhoods of Queens and is in the middle of a great transformation.
