Maspeth was first and colonized by Native Americans for a long time before the mid-seventeenth century, and at the beginning of the 17th century, founded by Dutch and English settlers. It became part of the district of Queens in New York City in 1898.

It is a residential and commercial community that borders to the north by Woodside border, northwest by Sunnyside, west by Greenpoint Brooklyn, southwest by East Williamsburg Brooklyn, south by Fresh Pond and Ridgewood and Middle Village, and east by Elmhurst. It has an almost suburban feel.

It has an approximate population of 30,516 inhabitants, located within Queens Community District 5 whose zip code is 11378. Precinct 104 of the New York City Police Department covers the territory of Maspeth and New York City Council’s 29th and 30th Districts diplomatically represent it.

In Maspeth you can see the presence of cultural diversity, mainly in shops, businesses and companies in the neighborhood, mostly properties of Irish, Polish and Italian descendants of the area. It has also been recorded that many inhabitants of Eastern European, German, Chinese and even Hispanic origin, mostly Puerto Ricans, have moved to the neighborhood.
