Geographically situated in the western section of the East Bronx, one of the five boroughs of New York City lies the working-class mostly residential neighborhood of Van Nest, most of the southeastern portion is occupied by multiple industries. It is bounded by the Bronx Park, Bronxdale Avenue, the Bronx Zoo, the Bronx River Parkway, Morris Park, and the Amtrak Tracks. Van Nest actually predates Morris Park by over twenty years, making it the oldest of the two Bronx neighborhoods. The main roadways running through the community are White Plains Road and Morris Park Avenue, which are also the primary commercial hubs in the neighborhood. Residents can satisfy all of their basic shopping needs without having to leave. However, for other big-ticket items, they will have to journey into the other neighboring communities.

Van Nest, along with Pelham Parkway, Allerton, Pelham Gardens, Indian Village, and Morris Park makes up the Bronx Community Board 11, and its ZIP codes are 10460 and 10462. The streets of Van Nest are kept safe thanks to the capable police officers of the 49th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. The population is of approximately 14.000 with a predominantly Hispanic and Latino demographic. Van Nest has one of the highest concentration of Puerto Rican and Dominican immigrants in the Bronx. It is also home to a longstanding community of Italians and Albanians, and over the past few decades, the African-American populace has increased. Public transportation is definitely not a problem for the neighborhood, there are plenty of options available when it comes to commuting for Midtown Manhattan.
