Brightwaters is one of the many villages that are part of Suffolk County in the New York City of the United States of America, located more precisely in the southwestern part of the city of Islip belonging to this county. According to data recorded at the time of the 2010 census, it estimated that 3,103 inhabitants constituted the total population of the town. The Incorporated Village of Brightwaters was the official name.

Directly north of Montauk Highway, the town of Brightwaters contains four adjacent lakes, which are Lake Nosrekca, Lake Espejo, Lake Cascadas and Lake Laguna. North of Brightwaters is Wohseepee Park, and south of Montauk Highway is the Brightwaters Canal. Between the intersection of Orinoco Drive and Windsor Avenue are the businesses and commercial premises of the Brightwaters community, such as the popularly known Brightwaters Village.  The village of Brightwaters is further divided into three districts which are marked and defined by their border boundaries and geographical characteristics.

These districts are called the Wohseepee Park District which encompasses the entire north of Brightwaters located north of Union Boulevard to Seneca Drive, the Canal District which occupies the entire south of Brightwaters heading south of Montauk Highway, and finally the Lake District which comprises the entire Brightwaters center northbound from the road to Union Boulevard. The village has a total area of 1.0 square miles or 2.6 km2 according to data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. The Bay Shore School District is responsible for serving Brightwaters residents as well, but the zip code assigned to it is different from the Bay Shore zip code, attributing code 11718 to the community.
